Pre-Tryout FAQ's Answers
Who can try out? Any player born in 2015 - 2007. Additionally, 2016's may register for tryouts in the u11 age group with approval from a director of coaching to ensure this is appropriate for you.
Who has to tryout? Everyone must register and attend tryouts if you wish to be considered for a VUFC 2025/26 roster spot. Players must REGISTER to be considered for an invitation to ECNL RL tryouts. Players wishing to play for the NPL must also register but no invitation is required to attend.
Which tryout should I register for? Your player should register for the highest level of play that they would like to participate in. If they are interested in playing on ECNL-RL, they should register for ECNL-RL tryouts. If they intend on playing NPL, they should register for NPL tryouts. If you're unsure, please mark the appropriate box during registration and one of our staff members will assist you.
Can I tryout for an older age group? Players must register and participate with your current age group regardless of current team placement.
What if I can't attend my tryout? All players must register and attend all required tryouts. If you can't attend tryouts please click here to fill out this form and someone from our staff will be in contact with you.
How do I change my tryout registration? Email tryouts@vaunited.org
How will I know if tryout dates/times/locations change? The website will be the PRIMARY resource for tryout schedules. Notifications will be sent out via PlayMetrics for any changes that occur to your tryout schedule after March 10th. Prior to March 10th, please check the website for updates. Please ensure your notificiations are turned on for PlayMetrics as this is our primary source of communication regarding weather and last mintue schedule changes.
What do I need to wear for tryouts? Players should wear a black or dark colored tshirt. A tryout number will be issued to you once you check in.
What do I need to bring to tryouts? Please bring a soccer ball with your name on it, water bottle and shinguards. Shinguards are mandatory for tryouts and must be worn the entire time.
What time do I arrive for tryouts? Please be sure you have registered 72 hours prior to your first tryout. Tryout check-in will open 45 mintues prior to the start time. We encourage everyone to arrive at least 30 minutes early to allow for warm-up and completion of check-in process.
Where can parents observe during tryouts? VA Tech Rec fields - outside the fence - Roanoke facilities- behind designated fencing/taped off areas. No parents are allowed on any tryout fields. Please be respectful of the process and allow your player to shine.
